We have more than 50 public skateparks within the 5 boroughs and there’s only 3 skateparks that have lights. Highbridge, Broadway Junction, Maspeth, and technically Golconda, sometimes.

We recommend Mayor Mamdani and the parks department of New York City to impart the skateboard community the same consideration given to other sports I.e. illuminated soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc.

You can go to Hudson River Park or any park and see illuminated EMPTY tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields. Yet you’ll find dark, yet crowded skateparks. This is unfair, uncalled for, and we demand action now. After all Skateboarding is now an Olympic sport and we deserve to have facilities in NYC where athletes can train after work just like your beloved basketball, soccer, and tennis players.
