Mr. Polazzo, who teaches at Stuyvesant High School, wrote:
"Once the dying begins in earnest, those leaders who lacked the courage to step in and act boldly will be remembered harshly by history and the voters. Every day, every hour, every minute makes a difference. Mayor de Blasio, on behalf of my students, my family, my city and on behalf of all of the most vulnerable New Yorkers, I beg of you: please. Please. Please close the schools."
Dear Mayor de Blasio, any day of your procrastination translates to hundreds if not thousands of additional infected families, contracting the virus from their children commuting to public school across NYC. Most of these families are under-privileged, low income families with limited budget for healthcare.
All the private schools in NYC are closed. Your own son's private college is now closed and he can stay safely at home.
How about our sons and daughters, and our teachers in NYC public schools? You are solely responsible for the suffering of these infected families as you knowingly keep our kids, our teachers and our communities in harms way.
CLOSE NYC PUBLIC SCHOOLS NOW!
