The Issue

To Governor Kathy Hochul,

We, the undersigned New York City employees, request that you take action to immediately remove Mayor Eric Adams from office.

On February 10, 2025, Emil Bove, the acting Attorney General, directed the Southern District of New York to dismiss the charges in Mayor Adams’s corruption case. In their memo, they stated that this action was being taken because “prosecution has unduly restricted Mayor Adams’ ability to devote full attention and resources to the illegal immigration and violent crime that escalated under the prior Administration.”

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Danielle Sassoon, the interim U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi that she could not in “good faith” defend the reasoning of Mr. Bove and that it is not “in the public interest and as consistent with the principles of impartiality and fairness.” She went on to provide extensive detail to the quid pro quo organized by Mayor Adams’s representatives that exchanged the mayor’s acquiescence on city immigration policy for dismissal of his case. She explicitly states that “it is a breathtaking and dangerous precedent to reward Adams’s opportunistic and shifting commitments on immigration and other policy matters with dismissal of a criminal indictment.”

As Mayor Adams’s employees, we have a unique voice and perspective on the current moment. As made evident by the letter by the U.S. attorney, the policies that guide our day-to-day work serving the people of New York City are no longer subject to the democratic process - they are instead privy to the personal legal problems of Mayor Adams. As public servants we are held to a high-standard of ethical behavior, and we know that if we took part in a fraction of the lawless, self-serving activity Mayor Adams is taking part in, we would be heavily fined and removed from our positions.

Mayor Adams said on January 30th, 2025, “I do not have to answer to any man, any woman, or child. I answer to God.” This is not true. He answers to the laws and people of our great city.

We no longer believe that Mayor Adams is faithfully executing his oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York and the Charter of the City of New York.

Governor Hochul, we ask that you use the power invested in you by New York State law, to immediately remove Mayor Eric Adams from his position as mayor of the City of New York.

Signed,
Employees of the City of New York.
