The Mayor and HPD want to change the rules for HDFC co-ops and we demand a seat at the table! We will not let our hard-earned equity be taken away from us, and we will not give up control to “monitors” installed by HPD that we would have to pay for! We will not allow the City to take away our DAMP tax abatement that makes our buildings affordable! We will not be forced to sign an unwanted, unnecessary and onerous new Regulatory Agreement! We must show a very strong, energized turnout at City Hall so that the Mayor, HPD, our Council Members, and other elected officials see how many determined HDFC voters are willing to take time out from our busy lives to organize and make them hear us loud and clear. Never again can we let our elected officials think that we don't care, that we aren't watching, that we aren't organized. All our work over the last year has been building up to this citywide rally for HDFCs. Did you know that as recently as March of this year, the Mayor's office, on behalf of HPD, submitted a proposal to Albany to fundamentally change the NY State Private Housing Finance Law (PHFL) that applies to our HDFCs? If HDFC shareholders are to be heard, respected and seriously consulted, we must organize ourselves politically and demand policy and programs that actually work. We at the HDFC Coalition are working day and night to prepare for the City Hall Rally. We are volunteering, without pay, and many of us are taking the day off from work on Wednesday, June 21st. We should have a number of your City Council members at the rally, which is made possible by all of our combined phone calls, emails, letters and dogged persistence. How can you help us prepare for the City Hall Rally? (We REALLY need help!!!) Help print flyers and post at HDFC buildings 1. Print the flyers and post in your building's lobby (that's easy!) (flyers attached to this email) 2. Please email Glory at: gloryny@aol.com immediately to volunteer to help distribute flyers. You can also flyer in your area. And if you have a car and can drive, Glory may be able to connect you with people who can help tape up flyers as you drive them around. (If you email her, please state where you live, what days/times you can put up flyers, if you can print the flyers yourself, if you have a car, etc. Include your cell phone number. That will reduce the back and forth emailing.) 3. Organize your own flyering. Just let Glory know where you will be going, print the flyers, post them at HDFC buildings, and check off the list of addresses of the ones you did. Then send an email to Glory with the info. Make signs for the rally Home made signs are great, and photographers love to take pictures of them! (Remember to not use wooden sticks or anything that could be seen as a weapon, as you will not get through security at the City Hall steps that way.) The HDFC Coalition is hosting a sign making party in upper Manhattan on Saturday, June 17, from 10 am to noon at 800 Riverside Drive in the Community Room (Enter from 158th Street). We'll have pens, cardboard and suggested slogans, but please bring your own markers and cardboard if you can. Bring your kids! Host your own sign making party in your building! LAPTOP HELP ON JUNE 21, RALLY DAY - We need people to volunteer to bring their laptops to the rally and sign people up on the HDFC Coalition's mailing list. It would be very helpful (BUT NOT REQUIRED!) to have your own wireless service on the laptop, as we don't know if free WIFI will be available or working. We will create a simplified, web-based form that simply collects name, address, email, etc. A few questions, a few keystrokes, and it is saved! No need to do anything else! GENERAL HELP WITH RALLY DAY- We will probably need a few volunteers to help prepare and conduct the rally.
