Updates + Jan 17th HDFC Coalition Organizing Meeting in East Village

HDFC Coalition
Jan 16, 2017
Hello fellow HDFC shareholders, Happy New Year & Happy MLK Day as well! Are you ready to WIN THIS FIGHT TOGETHER WITH US IN EARLY 2017? If we all work together, we can, and we will! Remember- it's all about each of us just finding a few minutes to call/write/visit our City Council Members, and making sure our neighbors are, too! Tell them "No Regulatory Agreement, Don't take away our DAMP tax abatement that makes our buildings financially viable, HPD's plan threatens HDFC with failure, HPD must work with HDFC shareholders to create real solutions that help not hurt!" We apologize for another late meeting notice, but we were just informed that we were able to get not the community room, but the full 250-seat Theater for the New City (6:30pm, 155 First Ave @ East 10th St., Manhattan), so we can now expand our outreach for this meeting beyond what was originally just for folks in Downtown Manhattan. Now we are reaching out City-wide to any HDFC shareholder, anywhere in NYC, who wants to help organize their building/HDFCs in their area, and/or any HDFC shareholder who is concerned and wants to learn more. The focus is how to better organize and make our elected officials here from even more of us, and the agenda for the meeting includes: -Summary of HPD's proposal to drastically & suddenly change the rules of the HDFC program -What the HDFC Coalition has been doing to raise awareness, organize & meet with elected officials -Progress we have made so far -How we can all be even more effective at organizing our buildings and other HDFCs in our area and increasing the pressure on our elected officials through phone calls, letters, visits to their offices. We want this meeting to give folks a chance to break off into groups by area/City Council district, so you can meet and organize with people from your own neighborhood. We will have a list of all HDFC Coops in NYC. (You can find info and flyers you can download at www.hdfccoalition.org) More news: ---Recent article on HDFCs from Brick Underground--- Thanks to all of you who have attended meetings and contacted your NYC Council Members & other elected officials (and if you haven't yet, please do so today!), HPD and even the "Task Force on HDFCs" is starting to get the message that no one likes HPD's plan. We are having an impact and making a difference! You can read it here: http://www.brickunderground.com/buy/2017-regulatory-agreement-dispute-HDFCs ---NYC Council Member Corey Johnson issues letter to HPD--- CM Corey Johnson has written a letter to HPD that is very helpful to our fight. (If you can, please call his office to thank him for this letter at 212-788-6979.) You can read the letter here: http://www.hdfccoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/CM_Johnson_HDFC_Letter-to-HPD.pdf ---HDFC Coalition to Meet Mayor de Blasio--- We have not yet been able to schedule the promised meeting with the Mayor but hope to do so soon. You can jump to the 22:25 minute mark in this video of the Town Hall meeting to see the Mayor's promise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PttdrEqbGw ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ -Really important: sign up for updates from the HDFC Coalition, and have your neighbors do so too, here: http://www.hdfccoalition.org/contact-us/ ---HDFC Coalition on TV--- The HDFC Coalition was invited to participate in a show on the topic of HPD's proposal. The full show, taped on Nov. 4th, is now online here: https://vimeo.com/195688599 ---Keep the pressure on!--- It's so crucial to keep the pressure on our elected officials. All our progress so far is only because people like you and your neighbors have attended public meetings, wrote letters, emails & made phone calls (phone calls are good!) to your elected officials, demanding that HPD work with actual HDFC shareholders to address issues facing our buildings. Here are simple things you can do that don't take long: -You and your neighbors should contact your elected officials. Click here to see how: http://www.hdfccoalition.org/what-you-can-do-now/ -You can also try to reach the Mayor here http://www.nyc.gov/html/static/pages/officeofthemayor/contact.shtml and also here http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mailcau.html -Have your fellow shareholders sign this petition and share. -Get fast updates from our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HDFCCoalition & Re-Tweet our Twitter posts: https://twitter.com/HDFCCoalition -Talk to your neighbors! Get your building organized! Thanks again! Our voices are starting to be heard. Now, let's raise the volume even higher to fight for our self-preservation and the continued viability of HDFC cooperatives City-wide! The HDFC Coalition http://www.hdfccoalition.org
