INFO•ED (INFORMED NUTLEY FOR OPTIMAL EDUCATION)
Sep 22, 2021

First of all, many, many thanks go out to all of you who took the time out of your busy lives, to consider what this petition would mean and to support it. At the end of the day yesterday (Monday, September 20, 2021 when we closed the petition,) we had 528 signers. The petition website indicates 545; but we eliminated bogus and obviously inauthentic names.

For our final tally of signers, we had 430 Nutley residents whose names we matched against current public directories and voter registration records.  We also had an additional 98 non-Nutley supporters.  At yesterday’s Nutley School Board Meeting, the petition was presented and formally submitted to the Board via email and a printed hard copy with the names and final tally.

We are pleased to report that the Board voted to rescind its letter of opposition to the NJ State School Mandate Executive Order 251.

Thank you to the residents who spoke so eloquently at the PUBLIC COMMENT period in support of the NJ State School Mask Mandate, and to the residents who attended in solidarity and support. Thank you to all the Nutley Board of Education Trustees for listening.

On behalf of all of the signatories on the petition, and many others in the community who feel universal masking is part of a responsible civic plan, the Board’s decision not to move forward with communications to the Governor is applauded. Further, INFO•ED will continue to support the Board’s efforts to balance the complex educational, social, and public health issues which are operating in this challenging time.
