We still have a long way to go to pressure the NSW State Parole Authority into rethinking parole altogether. A recidivist violent sex offender who has shown no remorse and who the Parole Authority admits has not been adequately reformed should not be released at all. The Authority does not consult with public, has limited understanding of who constitutes victim status and makes the dangerous assumption that an offender will show contrition. It is entirely unacceptable and irresponsible to expect the community can reform a high-risk offender. As Tom Meagher stated in this petition, "Please have the humility to learn from past mistakes". His wife’s murder was preventable. Simon Monteiro has a track record of reoffending within days of release. Why should this time, after ten years’ incarceration, prove any different?
