Petition updateIncreased Police numbers for the Tweed/Byron Community

Progress made - More work needed

Tweed/Byron Branch of the NSW Police Association
Oct 22, 2017
To the Tweed/Byron Community, Thank you for all the support received so far, our local police are still undertaking great work in the community, this campaign is purely designed at providing them with additional numbers to increase that great work and ensure the community is protected 24/7. The Tweed/Byron Branch of the Police Association of NSW will be holding an urgent branch meeting tomorrow (Tuesday 24/10/2017) for its members to determine the future direction of this campaign. In response to our campaign and your support the NSW Police Force have committed to several interim measures designed to assist over the coming summer months. Whilst these initiatives are a relief to our members they are only a short term fix to a long term crisis. However, unfortunately the NSW Police Force has not committed to provide the Tweed/Byron Command with any additional Police on a permanent basis. With the Commonwealth Games only 6 months away and the local festivals continually expanding we can not wait any longer for an increase in police numbers in our area. The feedback from this petition highlights the need for the NSW Police Force to provide a greater service to this community. Our aim continues to be: 1. The community has greater access to their Police and are provided with a greater level of service 2. Police officers are provided with backup and support for increasing workloads 3. Mid-level organised crime is targeted To achieve this the Tweed/Byron Branch of the PANSW believes the following resources need to be provided: 1. Additional General Duties police to increase coverage, backup and response capabilities in Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads, Kingscliff, Byron Bay and the Byron Hinterland 2. Increased supervision for police officers by implementing a 'mobile supervisor' 3. Increased capacity of the Tweed/Byron Detectives Office 4. Establishment of a unit tasked to investigate mid-level & organised crime in our community. We believe what is sought is reasonable and no different to the resources provided to metropolitan commands and many rural townships. Please continue to support our cause and where possible share this petition via social media. Thank you for your support Tweed/Byron Branch of the Police Association of NSW
