On Christmas Eve 2004, Adam visited my Bangor home late in the afternoon to confirm plans for Christmas Day. He was looking forward to spending Christmas Eve with his girlfriend Nicole (née Timms) and their friends.
Regrettably, the evening ended in tragedy. Early on Christmas morning, Shayne Jessiman arrived at my home to inform me that there had been an accident and Adam was in St. George Hospital. I contacted the hospital and spoke with Adam, who was experiencing severe pain and awaiting surgery due to fractures in both wrists.
Rumours began to circulate suggesting that Adam had attempted suicide by jumping from his third-floor balcony. There was no evidence to support this claim, and I did not believe it.
I was told that Adam left the group early and went home to bed. Upon waking around midnight and discovering Nicole was not home, he called her. Shayne Jessiman answered Nicole's phone and refused to pass it to Nicole, leading to an exchange of angry words. Nicole and Shayne then went to the Cronulla unit and claimed they found Adam injured on the ground.
The Timms family kept a round-the-clock vigil at St George Hospital and following his discharge, Adam stayed at their Bangor home. From that day on Adam was chaperoned and I never had the opportunity to spend time alone with him.
I recall, on Monday 1 August 2005 Adam came running up the back stairs into my Bangor home announcing “Mum, they said I’ve always been like this” “Like what Adam” I enquired. “Oh, it doesn’t matter” he replied.
Adam had parked on the fire trail at the rear of my house. When I looked out over the balcony there is Nicole sitting in the passenger seat. Adam was scared and he was dead forty-eight hours later 3 August 2005.
