Press Release
PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD SUNDAY 31ST JULY
CENTRAL BARANGAROO – GROSS OVERDEVELOPMENT, BLOCKING HISTORIC PUBLIC VIEWS TO/FROM OBSERVATORY HILL, OVERSHADWOING OF A COMMUNITY, HERITAGE VANDALISM
AUSTRALIA, Sydney 27th July 2022:
The Millers Point Community Resident Action Group will be hosting a public meeting on Central Barangaroo 31st July from midday at the Harry Jensen Centre, 17 Argyle Place, Millers Point. All welcome!
Central Barangaroo’s long awaited Concept Plan Modification 9 has finally gone on public exhibition (objections due by 22nd August) and the proposal being far worse than anticipated. Gross overdevelopment, blocking of historic public views to/from Observatory Hill, overshadowing of a community and heritage vandalism.
The beautiful character of Millers Point and The Rocks, Sydney’s Old Town, will be forever destroyed if this proposal is approved.
Mr. Bernard Kelly, President of the Millers Point Resident Action Group said, “To rub salt into the wound, a gratuitous cash grab residential tower, some 20+ stories on the northern edge of the area eclipsing what has been the tallest building in Millers Point for over 100 years (that’s what the suburb, Barangaroo used to be called) – The Palisade Hotel. Our Premier doesn’t like Blues Point Tower across the harbour from Millers Point, so why is he allowing his own “Barangaroo Point” Tower?”
“This proposal adversely affects much of the inner-city, not just Millers Point. Residents from Balmain, Pyrmont, Glebe and Darling Island are outraged and will be attending Sunday’s public meeting.”
Guests of Honour who will be attending Sunday’s meeting include Sydney Lord Mayor, Clover Moore; and former City of Sydney Councillor, Philip Thalis.
