SOCIAL workers and mental health professionals are demanding that the NSPCC stop accepting tainted money.

Israel uses excavators manufactured by JCB to destroy the homes, schools and clinics of children and their families in Palestine. But the NSPCC has accepted at least £5 million pounds from the giant company which has been fingered by the UN as profiting from Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

Social workers and mental health professionals have added their voices to the campaign which insists that the children’s charity should sever its links with JCB. Profits from such a source are incompatible with the charity’s ethos it is claimed.

In a statement on their website Social Work Action Network (SWAN) applauds the charity’s aim to “give a voice to children” and “to fight for every childhood”.

But British children should not benefit at the expense of Palestinian children and their families, it said.

““SWAN calls on the NSPCC to demonstrate a truly ethical position (and) cease to take money from JCB,” adding that a charity should not accept money from a company complicit in war crimes.

In a draft letter to the NSPCC the UK-Palestine Mental Health Network wrote: “We are dismayed ……to learn that the NSPCC has accepted millions of pounds in donations from the company, JCB.

“This is despite the well-documented fact that their machines are routinely used to demolish the homes of Palestinian children. JCB, fully aware that their machines are used for these purposes, continue to export them to Israel. It is shocking that the NSPCC has been made aware of this and yet continues to accept money from JCB.”
