MAJOR UPDATE! on the Gas Plants Proposed for Pictou County -Take Action Today.

Hi Everyone!

We're writing with a LEAP update and how you can help with quick action on this rainy Sunday.

PEOPLE POWER IS WORKING!
️
After months of pressure from Pictou County residents and beyond, Premier Tim Houston is now asking Nova Scotia’s grid operator (the IESO) to broaden its Request For Proposals to include battery technology, not just methane gas and diesel power generation. (CBC article here.)
That’s a BIG deal! Our voices are being heard.

But the grid operator hasn’t made an official announcement, and changes to its Request for Proposals need to happen by September 11.
So let’s turn words into action.

Email premier@novascotia.ca

or call 1 902-424-6600

Premier Houston: thank him for listening to us — and tell him to act fast to make sure batteries are included in the IESO’s Request for Proposals before it’s too late. (Template letter here.)
When our community speaks up, things move. Let’s keep the pressure on.
Renewable energy and battery storage are now the cheapest form of energy available. Together, we can help Nova Scotia become a green energy superpower, and a leader in providing affordable energy for all.

HELP US REACH NOVA SCOTIANS ACROSS THE PROVINCE:

We think Nova Scotians who don’t live near the planned peaker plant sites in Pictou County might not realize that these plants impact them too. So we asked community members to share their stories on why they’re taking a stand in a new series of videos that we're rolling out across our Facebook and Instagram (and soon to also be on our YouTube channel). You can see the first video posted Wednesday here: Rates video on Facebook. These reels will continue to be posted over the next couple of weeks. In them, everyday residents speak out on rising power bills, local air pollution, damage to nature, and climate change.

How you can take action today by helping boost these posts:
1. Watch, Like & Comment: Leaving a quick comment on the posts gives a huge boost to the social media algorithms so more people see them.
2. Share the Videos: Post these early videos to your own social channels or email them to friends and family. More will be posted to our YouTube channel in the coming days. So please direct folks who are not on social media there.
3. Ultimately, we’re hoping people are moved to email Premier Houston and their own MLA - the template can be found on our website.  So when you're reposting and sharing, please invite folks into this call to action!

We’re going to need people right across Nova Scotia on our side, taking action with us, as we head into the fall. We’d really appreciate anything you can do to help us make it clear that, while it’s happening in Pictou, it’s all Nova Scotians who will wind up on the hook for this mess.

Thank you so much for your support and for taking action with us!

We can do better!

Sincerely,
LEAP
