#NoToElectoralViolence
The Issue
"The Election we want,
A violence free election
An election where Nigeria becomes better for you and I
A prayer sandwiched between anger and desire
Where voices of all can be heard and every vote counts in the final word
A peaceful election that is hitch free
Where souls don’t scurry about in search of their bloodied shells
An election where hearts bruised will find healing again
An election where our right aren’t trampled upon like dust but protected like pure gold
Let’s listen to the sorrowful music of centuries and rise above selling our votes
May the people's will be reflected and their desires duly respected
An election where blood doesn’t come home before sons
A chance to speak with our collective voice
An election with colour, where gray world cease to last
An election we want, where our mothers tear don't get stream overflowing
An election we want, fair and just.
An election of us, by us, for us
So help us God"
We the storytellers at Truemyvoice Wrote this poem at the masterclass we had titled - Sound of unity.
We also went a step further to put together an audiovisual compendium saying no to Electoral Violence and also organize a spoken word poetry competition where poetry were asked to lend their voices to this cause.
As we approach the upcoming elections in Nigeria, it is crucial that we all stand together in saying NO to electoral violence. Elections should be a time when we exercise our right to vote and choose the leaders we want. Unfortunately, in the past, we have witnessed the consequences of electoral violence, including the unnecessary loss of lives, properties and political instability.
The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy, and every citizen deserves the opportunity to express their opinions and beliefs peacefully. We must not allow the actions of a few to jeopardise the peace and stability of our nation. Instead, we must work together to ensure that every vote counts and that our elections are conducted in a safe and peaceful manner.
We call on the electoral commission, security agencies, political parties, and all citizens to play their part in ensuring peaceful elections.
As citizens, we must remain peaceful and avoid any form of violence during the elections and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
We say #NoToElectoralViolence and urge you to join us in our stand against Electoral Violence by watching this and signing the petition.
