Not to discontinue advanced Math class at North Creek High School due to budgetary cuts

Not to discontinue advanced Math class at North Creek High School due to budgetary cuts
The Issue
We are a group of passionate students from North Creek High with a deep interest in mathematics, and our current mathematical pathway, like many others, requires advanced math topics. We recently experienced a setback in our educational journey when our high school discontinued the Calculus 4 class for the 2025-2026 academic year onwards due to district budget cuts. Calculus 4 at North Creek was just few students short of meeting the required criteria for continuance. This advanced math class is not just an elective but a stepping stone to broader scientific and mathematical discoveries. Cutting it deprives us of expanding our understanding and potentially affecting our future careers in the STEM field.
Students with less than 4 years of mathematics in high school are not viewed as ideal candidates for STEM fields, especially engineering and technology, by college admissions. Many out-of-state universities do not recognize community college credits from other states, which cuts down the opportunities for us to have a future education in STEM fields.
Research shows a strong correlation between advanced math classes and better performance in college, especially in STEM majors (National Center for Education Statistics). Losing such a pivotal class is not just a personal loss but a loss for our entire district community and the future of our education.
This decision might help balance the school budget today, but at what cost tomorrow? We fear we are compromising our futures for short-term gains. The school having such a course will allow for students to grow and develop while allowing us to reach the standard of education from other schools in the district, which do provide the course. Many students already on the pathway to reach Calculus 4 will be plagued by this issue for years to come, and the rigor and advanced coursework this class provides to students who need it is what truly separates North Creek from other schools in the state.
Therefore, we urge school administrators to reconsider their decision and reinstate the Calculus 4 class. Our education and our North Creek community futures depend on it.
Please join us in bringing back the opportunity for advanced mathematical education in our school by signing and sharing our petition. Any community member with the welfare of future generation in mind can sign the petition. Let's champion for the advancement and diversification of our curriculum.
Thank you.
