Race car drivers, cyclists, and volleyball players must be fast -- but slaughterhouses are no place for racing, according to a group of sports stars who are teaming up with Compassion Over Killing to stop the USDA’s dangerous high-speed slaughter program. Join them today by submitting your comment to the USDA at http://bit.ly/NSIScomment!
Kickstarted by professional race car driver Leilani Münter in 2016, the “Not So Fast, USDA” campaign now welcomes NBA All-Star Metta World Peace, Olympic medalist and activist Dotsie Bausch, cyclist Jack Lindquist, rock climber and flyer Steph Davis, race car driver Spencer Pumpelly, World Cup volleyball champion Dustin Watten, ultra runner Laura Kline, and race car driver Andy Lally.
The USDA is now accepting public comments on its proposed rule, misleadingly titled “Modernization of Swine Slaughter Inspection,” to expand its high-speed pig slaughter program nationwide -- and so far, more than 39,500 comments have poured in. These elite athletes are the latest to tell the USDA that it’s no game to reverse progress by speeding up slaughter lines under the guise of “modernization.”
Says Metta World Peace of the high-speed proposal, “This form of slaughter is not only especially cruel to animals, but also jeopardizes the safety of slaughterhouse workers and of our food supply. As a society, we need to draw the line and put safety, common sense, and compassion ahead of corporate profits. The modernization of our food safety systems should NOT come at the expense of public health, worker safety, or animal welfare.”
You can join these star athletes in being a champion for animals by submitting your comment TODAY! Visit http://bit.ly/NSIScomment for a sample and instructions.
