The Issue

Subject: Cease the Sale of 11525 Lakeridge Parkway to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

The Preamble

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, are writing to express our profound disappointment and fundamental disagreement with the decision of Jim Pattison Developments to facilitate the expansion of the U.S. detention system.

As one of Canada’s most prominent business leaders and philanthropists, Jim Pattison has built a legacy on the values of "Integrity, Quality, and Professionalism." We believe that selling land for the explicit purpose of building an ICE detention center—facilities widely documented to be involved in the separation of families and the infringement of human rights—is a direct contradiction of those Canadian values.

Why This Matters to Canadians

Corporate Accountability: While this sale takes place on American soil, the profits flow back to a Canadian entity. We do not want Canadian businesses to be complicit in, or profit from, systems of mass incarceration and the humanitarian crises at the U.S. border.

Contradiction of Values: The Jim Pattison Group claims to "improve the community" in which they operate. A detention center that tears families apart does not improve a community; it destabilizes it.

Reputational Harm: This deal tarnishes the reputation of Canadian enterprise abroad. We believe our leading corporations should set a global standard for ethical real estate practices.

Our Demand

We call upon Jim Pattison and the leadership of Jim Pattison Developments to:

Cancel the sale of the property at 11525 Lakeridge Parkway to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Commit to a "Human Rights Due Diligence" policy for all future international real estate transactions to ensure properties are not sold to agencies or entities with documented histories of human rights concerns.

Canada is watching. We urge you to choose people over profit.

How to use this:

Social Media: Sharing this on the r/vancouver, r/saskatchewan (where he has a large presence), or r/canada subreddits will likely gain significant traction given the current news cycle.

Direct Contact: You can also send this wording directly to their Vancouver headquarters at admin@jp-group.com.
