Outcome for the Watt Park stairs

Good Evening All,
As you may or may not be aware, North Sydney Council has made a decision regarding the Watt Park stairs, following the Council meeting on Monday, 26th March.
The following documents are available on North Sydney Council's website here: https://www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/Council_Meetings/Meetings/Council_Meetings/Council_26_Mar_2018
- the report and recommendations from the Open Space and Environmental Services Division can be found at the very bottom
- the minutes from the Council meeting can be found in the right hand column (items 56 & 93)
- the audio recording from the Council meeting can also be found in the right hand column (under Watch; then click on the photo of the council chambers, then the most recent file from the column on the right)
A final decision was made to pursue Option 4, subject to advice from the Council’s Insurer regarding insurance & premiums.
Whilst I’m personally disappointed that conservation & restoration were not considered, I’m also aware that this outcome is the least aggressive of the Options given, and therefore a much better outcome than the one originally planned for the stairs.
I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to sign this petition, contact the Council, write letters, and spread the word. Using our individual & collective voices to speak out regarding this issue has ensured the stairs and surrounding conservation area will retain some of their much-loved heritage and aesthetic value, which I'm sure will be appreciated for generations to come.
Kind Regards,
Belinda Campbell.
