Council Meeting tomorrow night at 7pm

Bernard Smith Lavender Bay Precinct - Precinct members pleased that Options 1 & 2 are not being recommended. - Options 3 & 4 are more in line with existing stairs. However, both options involve a suspended landing with steel edges and fibreglass reinforced plastic mesh. Precinct members do not support these options. - Only 12 out of 48 community members in the community consultation supported one of the 4 current options. - Precinct asks Council to defer the upgrade of the stairs so that a 5th option can be developed that is supported by the community. Belinda Campbell Save Our Stairs petition - Heritage: all Options contravene DCP & LEP; materials not appropriate for this Conservation Area; removing timber handrails goes against the heritage of this location; alternative design for low level lighting should be considered; arborist report. - Accessibility: BCA & Standards not applicable; alternative access routes for disabled user groups. - Aesthetics: conservation & restoration to enhance safety can be combined with preservation of this area. - Number of people requesting conservation and restoration outweighs the support for all four Options presented. - Asks Council to delay or cancel proposed works, in order to implement a considered conservation & restoration approach.
