Close ND Schools

The Issue

Think About It: Everyone wants school to be called off.

The WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. It is said that only ⅓ of people with the coronavirus have actually been tested for it. This means people we know and love could have it without knowing, as symptoms don’t show up for about two weeks.

This is not safe. Sure, us young folk don’t have to worry about passing away because of the virus, but we could potentially pass it on to someone who could. (ex. grandparents)

Plus, a lot of us traveled over the long weekend and spring break.

A few days off will let us rest and not put us in any danger! Multiple schools around us (NDSU, UND, & MSUM) have already switched to online courses or at least done something.

Why now?

Minnesota announced today that they will not be having school until March 27th. South Dakota schools are also closed. Plus, all sports and after school activities (fine arts, clubs, etc) are suspended. And with all the angry people tweeting at the governor you should realize how many people don’t want school.

A ton of students in ND have said they won’t be able to make it to school due to the fact their parents are making them stay home out of fear.

Plus, it has already influenced the closings of many other things. Just to name some: Disneyland is closed, almost all colleges have done something (closed, moved to online classes, etc), Coachella and Stagecoach are postponed, so many tours/concerts/events (TSS fan fest, E3, LiveNation tours) are postponed, st patrick’s day parades all over are postponed, whole countries and states are shut down (Italy, Maryland, etc), the rest of the NBA season is off, the rest of MLB spring training if off, almost everywhere is out of masks/toilet paper/hand sanitizer/etc, cruise lines are suspended, NHL/NCAA/MLS seasons are suspended, ceremonies/awardings are cancelled (Rock And Roll hall of fame), museums are closed, movie release dates have been pushed back, democratic debates have been moved, churches are closed, work places are closed, activities/clubs are canceled (FM Youth Symphony), schools are banning out of state travel, shows with live audiences are filming without them, school districts are closed, and Broadway stopped running shows

Also, Trump declared it a national emergency and ND is in a state of emergency. We just want to be safe.
