'No alcohol on Sunday before noon' law; Repeal NC General Statute 18B-1004(c)

The Issue

This Sunday Closing Law, also known as a Blue Law, formally known as NC General Statute 18B-1004(c) is antiquated and needs to be repealed.

In case you're unfamiliar with the specifics, the statute states, "Sunday Hours. - It shall be unlawful to sell or consume alcoholic beverages on any licensed premises from the time at which sale or consumption must cease on Sunday morning until 12:00 Noon on that day."

Regardless of the initial purpose of this law, it is very clear that it no longer serves a meaningful function and is nothing more than an inconvenience (to people and businesses). As a reminder, Prohibition ended over 80 years ago (1933) and it is time that this state sponsored prohibition, specifically the statute discussed in this petition, ended as well.
