African-American History Course in North Bergen Highschool

African-American History Course in North Bergen Highschool
The Issue
Hudson County is one of the most diverse counties among our nation. In our North Bergen community specifically, our large hispanic community is ever-growing and in unity creates a large voice especially in social matters. With the Black Lives Matter movement, as a society it is important to understand the role we have as allies in this matter and how we can contribute in our very own communities to enforce racial equality in all forms. North Bergen High School has recently created many unique courses in the Social Studies Department that are given as an option to our senior students to take at their discretion such as (psychology, New Jersey history, history through music, documentary and filmmaking) With our town having many people of afro-carribean and afro-latino backgrounds this course will not only greatly benefit in informing our students of their history but also allowing them the outlet to understand the history of the black community. In addition to this it'll also provide better understanding on how to be an ally in the future. Signing this petition will show our district the support this idea has from the community, alumni, current students, faculty members, and more.
