Keep Nordstrom Annapolis Open

The Issue

Nordstrom Annapolis has been a part of the Annapolis community for over twenty years.  With John Nordstrom cultivating a culture of excellence that the world has seldom seen, naturally, the store and its service took off in the local market.  Loyal clients stepped up to support the store which offered the luxury brands that they loved and the service that they have come to expect.  For many, the atmosphere, and a general sense of joy, led them to the Annapolis store to shop and forget about life for a while.  The piano music, the Holiday parties, the decorations, etc, made people feel good and want to spend their money.  When a company starts to whittle away at the atmosphere by getting rid of the piano and reducing the grand decorations and events, as well as pulling the brands once loved and coveted out of the store, reducing parties and events to almost nothing, it takes the wind out of the very spirit that originally drew them in.

We have supported the Nordstrom brand in Annapolis for over 20 years.  We CAN get the spirit back, continue to build the brand and get back to having fun while shopping again.  In fact, the store just seemed to be getting that mojo back with the new manager and great staff in Annapolis BUT in our humble opinion, they have to be given the tools to do it!  Business as a whole is a numbers name, we get it.  What's not working must be cut and what is working supported, HOWEVER; there is, in fact, more to it than bean-counting.  Looking deeper into the local socio-economics of the area, what worked and what changed when the numbers slumped, demand a closer look.  Customers WANT to be pampered, to be addressed by first names, to be appreciated, and to be acknowledged.  This is EXACTLY what the new store manager was fostering in Annapolis again, and beginning to build a world-class store again when the carpet was ripped out from under her.

The store should be given a chance to recover from the spirit deflating changes that were forced upon the store years ago with this breath of fresh air the manager brought.  The staff could feel it and the customers, in turn, could "feel" the difference.

In this petition, the customers are asking the Nordstorm executives to give the store a chance to recover and for them to give the staff the tools they need to make it world-class again.  We, as customers are here to support the store, and are ready to put our money where our mouths are, but we arent going to do it in Columbia Mall.  The employees, the staff and the customers deserve a closer look.  Let us help!
