Gold mining on the St Mary’s River: Social and Environmental Impacts talk

Good afternoon everyone,

Scott Beaver here President of St Mary's River Association with a message. 

I'm going to be speaking about the environmental impacts that the proposed Cochrane Hill 2.0 (Old Mitchell Mine) project could potentially bring to our community.

Our special guest, Dr. Baran Karsak, will be speaking about the social impacts that such a gold mine could bring.

Come out and hear what we have to say for yourself, ask questions, and learn what we can do together to prevent what I believe is a ridiculous proposal for a watershed such as the St. Mary's River.

The St. Mary's River is currently the only candidate freshwater Ecologically Significant Area in all of Canada. It has benefited from just under $5 million in restoration work and is home to many rare and endangered species that depend on its waters, including Atlantic salmon, Wood turtles, and the freshwater mussel known as the Brook Floater.
