Non-consensual thought surveillance

Non-consensual thought surveillance

The Issue

After reading new research and the possibility of personal experience in my current life and recent past; I have become aware of technologies that are being used to monitor and control peers.  This is accomplished by the way of invasive devices that allow others to access thoughts as well as create visuals. With this technology thoughts can be distorted or altered to favor how abusers desire to present their victims.

By using this method of manipulation the abuser is not only able to, but likely to, create an environment that completely isolates and alienates the victim. Intentional and effective harm can be inflicted on victims by means of extortion or psychological torture.

Done either privately or publicly the victim is forced to endure confusion and/or humiliation in terms of minimal impact or complete loss of privacy (financially, socially, sexually, etc.) in terms of more significant impact. This makes the abuser capable of complete control over the victim; leading to severe and sometimes permanent consequences.

With use of this invasive technology as well as other methods of non consensual surveillance the victim is likely to suffer immensely for long periods of time due to significant psychological/emotional and social harm. The damage created by this suffering is likely to create lack of drive(or possibly executive dysfunction), motivation, joy, sense of safety/security, or desire to thrive.

The change I seek in this very inhumane issue is that such devices would not be obtainable without regulations that ensure participants are aware of their use and potential risks.

I also believe that policy should be created that an appropriate insurance/bond should be required prior to use as well as proper consent obtained. Although I do not believe criminal repercussions would necessarily be effective I do believe that a significant civil penalty should be established in the event of misuse.
