Nomad Foods and Birds Eye: Stop the cruelty to "your" chickens!

The Issue

Nomad Foods, with its three big brands Birds Eye, Findus and Iglo presents itself as a sustainable and quality-conscious company. However, this claim cannot be applied to the broiler chickens used by Nomad Foods, which end up on our plates via Birds Eye, Findus or Iglo. They live and die - as is common in broiler fattening - under painful conditions.

The animals suffer particularly from "turbo-growth" as well as from confinement and boredom in the sheds. In addition, the usual stunning techniques cause stress and are inefficient. Unfortunately, the laws in Europe are completely deficient here.

With the European Chicken Commitment (ECC), almost 30 European animal protection groups have agreed on new minimum standards for broiler farming in order to work against the worst problems. More than 150 large companies from the US and Europe have already committed to the standards of the ECC, including fast-food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken, and other large companies like Nestlé and Unilever.

Nomad Foods, however, has so far refused to commit to these basic animal welfare standards. It is now time that the company fulfilled its responsibility as one of the largest producers of frozen food in Europe.

Please sign the petition and urge Nomads Foods to meet the criteria of the European Chicken Commitment so as to fulfil its responsibility as well-known frozen-food company and to reduce the suffering of the animals it uses as meat.
