Dear Pipeline Fighters, It's happening. The Boone County Supervisors are taking the first in a series of steps toward the creation of a county wide ordinance and Community Bill of Rights toward stopping eminent domain for private gain. Please do everything in your power to attend this meeting in the Supervisors' chambers on the second floor of the Boone County Courthouse on 4/27/16. The meeting begins at 8:30 AM and our agenda item is slated for 10:15 AM. I will arrive at 9am to ensure I don't miss it. We hope to see you there to support our Boone County Supervisors. It is incredibly bold and forward thinking of them to consider this and we want to give them the public mandate they need to start the process of bringing it before the public. The Boone News Republican will cover the meeting as well. Once the public has been notified through the 4/27 meeting, if the Supervisors feel that there is enough public support to move forward- newspaper publication and a series of 3 public hearings will commence. We hope to give them enough support that they feel they have a mandate to ultimately vote to approve the Community Rights Ordinance/Bill of Rights to stop eminent domain for private gain in Boone County. Please spread the word. Written comments are very valuable and can be mailed or emailed to: Boone County Auditor Att: Heidi Kokemiller/BOS 210 State St. Boone, Iowa 50036 Email: heidik@boonecounty.iowa.gov and boonecoaud@boonecounty.iowa.gov Thank you, April Burch 515-709-0411 Written comment suggestions: Respectfully written comments addressing the "need to protect Iowa agricultural land from eminent domain condemnation on behalf of private parties seeking private gain" will also be DEEPLY valuable. That is the heart of the ordinance. A written record of community support, particularly from Boone County addresses will give them the public mandate they need to approve the ordinance. People writing from outside of the county may take the approach of, "my _______________ County supervisors have discounted repeated appeals from the public to protect farmland, sacred sites and shared natural resources so we turn now to you for protection." https://www.facebook.com/events/1722682414655510/1722682424655509/
