“No Voice for Autocracy- We Defend Democracy!”

We demand the immediate STOP to the erosion and dismantling of the separation of powers, science/education, and humanity!

As a clear sign against our powerlessness and against the acceptance of arbitrariness and the dismantling of democracy.

Addressees:
The Congress of the United States of America- Senate and House of Representatives and other autocratically led parliaments.

What is at stake?

We, the undersigned, raise our voices because we can and must no longer remain silent, passive, accepting, or resigned.

Democracy, the separation of powers, an independent judiciary, free science and research (including data collection), fact-based education, and a humanistic view of humanity are the cornerstones of every free society.

Yet these foundations are increasingly under immense pressure – through political polarization, deliberate disinformation, attacks on institutions, and autocratic ambitions that weaken and erode our democracies from within.

With emphasis, we oppose the arbitrariness and unpredictability of current U.S. policy and urgently appeal to all political representatives to live up to their responsibility and the dignity of their office by taking a stand and resolutely rising against the continuation of these intolerable actions and this untenable, reprehensible policy.

The Demand: What must Congress do and other autocratically run parliaments?

We call on the U.S. Congress (and other autocratically led parliaments) to take clear and decisive measures to protect these central foundations and to immediately stop their ongoing erosion and arbitrary undermining. In particular, this includes:

1.   Defending democracy and the rule of law- by respecting the separation of powers, judicial independence, and free media; ensuring transparent procedures; upholding the Constitution, laws, and the autonomy of the states; consistently implementing checks and balances; and immediately halting ongoing autocratic endeavors.

2.   Protecting science, research, and education- by ensuring free access to data and scientific facts; providing high-quality, fact-based education for all; immediately ending the dismantling of the Department of Education; stopping funding cuts; reversing already-implemented reductions; and maintaining international cooperation in education and research.

3.   Strengthening humanity as a guiding principle- by upholding a humanistic view of humankind that places dignity, freedom, and respect for human rights at the center of political action.

The Appeal: Why must we act now?

We all share responsibility. That is why we call on the representatives in the U.S. Congress to act now- decisively, visibly, and sustainably.

It takes all of us! Let us raise our voices, engage actively, and reclaim our democracies. Let us not surrender our world, our future- and that of our children, grandchildren, and generations to come- to autocratic forces and their arbitrary actions, which dismantle and endanger democracy, freedom, and stability in a lasting and partly irreversible way.

👉 Together, we can defend the foundations of freedom, rule of law, separation of powers, justice, seand humanity and scientific freedom.
