No Towers on 7!

No Towers on 7!
The Issue

PETITION TO:
LOUDOUN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
We the residents of Loudoun County believe Dominion’s unplanned and radical proposal to run high-voltage power lines and 135’ towers along Route 7 is ill conceived, and inadequately planned. The proposed transmission towers will have a devastating impact on the value and ambiance of the green space belonging to existing planned communities along the Route 7 corridor.
Dominion has not provided adequate or timely notice and information to the residents and businesses that will be overwhelmed by its present fast-track approach. Dominion has repeatedly failed to fully answer questions that have been presented, and we believe there are better, less impactful, alternatives Dominion has not evaluated.
We understand Dominion must provide service to data centers and the public, however, the means by which they deliver power requires more extensive planning and public engagement. In ten years, the means to supply energy to high tech data centers will have evolved significantly, but the blight of these unchecked high voltage transmission lines and towers will remain. It is not sufficient for Dominion to meet Loudoun’s expanding 21st Century power demands with technology that imposes a 1950’s footprint on the green space within our planned communities. Alternative ways of servicing Loudoun’s expansive power needs do exist, can be implemented, and should be explored.
We know irreparable harm will be done if the current proposal is allowed to proceed unchanged, and we call upon the Board of Supervisors to request that Dominion re-evaluate and seriously consider all other alternatives. We know the State Corporation Commission will make the final decision; however the County will have tremendous influence in how they decide.
We therefore petition the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to continue to support the residents and businesses of Loudoun County by adopting a resolution that requests the State Corporation Commission direct Dominion Virginia Power to submit an evaluation of alternate County alignments and for Dominion Virginia Power to work with the County and affected property owners to adequately inform and ensure that all routing alternatives accurately reflects existing development, planned infrastructure improvements, transportation networks and community development standards.
