Petition updateNo to Proposed Krogers Gas Station in Cathedral City Near Our NeighborhoodCity Council decides business more important than Planning Commission expertise and community needs

Unfortunately, City Council deicded 4 to 1 that the needs of big business, capitalism and gas profits are more important than the wants and needs of the community, as well as the professional opinion of the Planning Commission and are letting Krogers/Food4Less force their gas station into our neighborhood.

The City Council wants you to know Cathedral City ois ready to do business and make money, irrespective of the reality that communities across California (with New York following suit) are starting to ban new gas stations, especially those within 500 ft of a residential zone.

Nancy Ross claims to have met with "both sides" on this matter, yet as we updated in a previous update here, we were told by the City Manager that Nancy Ross was instructed by city attorneys NOT to take meetings on this matter, nor speak on it.

In the Council's opinion, the only complaint the community presented was traffic, which is of course untrue. Nancy Rposs said she'd like to have heard more about our fears of toxic fumes, like Benzene, and because she didn't hear anyone mentioning that, then she's all for this project.

We have been to every meeting.  We have presented our concerns about the health effects of living 135 ft from a gas station.  We outlined how this project goes against several sections of the City's General Plan, as well as parts of the Conditional Use Permit.

Cathedral City is building ANOTHER gas station on Date Palm, less than a mile from THIS GAS STATION, which is across the street from ANOTHER GAS STATION, at a time when the world is on fire, and gasoline is on its way out.

City Council and Krogers/Food4Less is forcing a gas station on our neighborhood that NO ONE wants.

Remember that when it comes time to vote for who you feel best represents the needs of the people in Cathedral City.

Thank you Rita Lamb, Mayor Pro Temp for being the ONLY "Hard No" on this project.
