NO to Parking Restrictions in Our Local Streets
The issue
Petition to Darebin City Council
We, the residents and community members of Northcote, strongly oppose the proposed on-street parking changes outlined in Council’s letter dated 30 September 2025 (Ref: A8249518).
The streets impacted in the proposal include:
- Boothby Street (both sides)
- Lorna Avenue (both sides)
- French Avenue (on the west side)
- Clifton Street (on the north side)
- Victoria Road (on the west side between Clifton St & Separation St and on the east side adjacent to the Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre)
Why we oppose these changes:
Unfair costs and inconvenience – residents are forced into permit fees or fines to park near their homes.
Excludes some residents from parking near their homes - not all dwellings are eligible to apply for parking permits.
Reduced access for residents and visitors – 1-hour and 2-hour limits are too short for residents, families, tradespeople, carers, and visitors.
Increased congestion and parking pressure – Restricting nearby streets will push cars into neighbouring areas, creating new bottlenecks and frustration.
Does not solve parking conjestion – 1-hour and 2-hour parking will not deter users of NARC from parking in our streets.
What we ask:
We call on Darebin City Council to:
Withdraw the current parking proposal for Boothby Street, Clifton St, Victoria Road, French Avenue, and Lorna Avenue.
