No Sheetz on Eastfield — We Don't Need a 14th Gas Station
The Issue
We aren't against Sheetz or gas stations in general: but we believe this is not the right location for another gas station.
Please sign the petition and stand with your neighbors in saying NO to another gas station at Eastfield Road.
We are neighbors who live in and around the Eastfield Road community, and we believe this property should be used in a way that better serves the surrounding neighborhood.
There are already thirteen gas stations within a three-mile radius of this intersection. Our community does not need a fourteenth—particularly at an already busy and complicated intersection serving a rapidly growing residential area. We'd rather see Sheetz replace two existing gas stations elsewhere in the area than add a sixth gas station at this busy corner.
We support responsible development and welcome businesses that bring value to our community. We simply believe this property can—and should—be used for something that is better suited to the surrounding neighborhood and does not add unnecessary traffic, congestion, and safety concerns to Eastfield Road. We don't get many opportunities to make community changes like this, which is why we've decided to step up and speak out. For example, there is construction currently going on directly across the street from this corner lot that is being developed into a McDonald's & a Taco Bell. The concern isn't one additional business in isolation. It's the cumulative impact of multiple high-traffic commercial uses being concentrated at the same intersection.
We are asking Mecklenburg County and our local decision-makers to reconsider this rezoning proposal and pursue a better use for this property—one that reflects the needs and character of the community that surrounds it.
Our neighborhood deserves thoughtful development. Our community deserves a voice.
