No security guarantee or nuclear program for Saudi Arabia. Don’t support a megadeal.

The Issue

Saudi Arabia’s ruler Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS) is eager to have a formal U.S. security guarantee and a nuclear program he’d no doubt use to make a nuclear bomb.  A group of 20 U.S. senators led by Sen. Chris Murphy has pointed out in a letter to President Biden that Saudi Arabia is an “authoritarian regime which regularly undermines U.S. interests in the region, has a deeply concerning human rights record, and has pursued an aggressive and reckless foreign policy agenda”.

To get the deal MBS would make a treaty with Israel and open trade. Facilitating such a deal would be a grave mistake. We don't need any more countries with nuclear bombs.  And why would the U.S. ever want to guarantee the “security” of the Saudi tyranny? How many regimes has the U.S. ended up supporting against the freedom struggles of their own peoples?

Why would we in the U.S. want to give a political triumph to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at a time when hundreds of thousands of Israelis come out week after week in demonstrations against his ongoing “judicial coup”?  Why would we give a triumph to a government that supports and participates in race riots against Palestinian towns. Why would we forge an alliance between regimes that murdered Palestinian Americans journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and Omar As’ad, and dismembered Washington journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Senators, loudly oppose any deal.
