No Salmon Farm in Yarmouth County

The Issue

Imagine this:

You live in a beautiful community where lobster fishermen, wormers, rock weeders, clammers, and perwinklers make a living for themselves and their families. They contribute to infrastructure, social programs, and community well-being significantly. You have stunning coastlines where hundreds of species are thriving just an arms length away as you take a stroll on the beach.

This is Yarmouth County.

Now, a big corporation wants to move in and create a massive inland salmon farm that could potentially sabotage all of that within several KM of it's operations. Unfiltered outflow (effluent - which has been proven to displace, and even kill species such as lobster) will now be pumped back into the ocean at an unimaginable rate. Algae blooms will be imminent and life will cease within.

This could be Yarmouth County.

This should make you angry (understandably so), and your voice and opinion needs to be heard. But, your local government has decided that anyone opposed to this operation will not be able to present themselves at any upcoming meetings or workshops. Why? Because they want this operation implemented quickly, quietly, and without citizen interjection. Interjections from citizens that live and breath their community. Citizens that are the backbone of this community.

Industry is important. Aquaculture IS necessary to meet the local, national, and global demand for seafood product - this is an undisputable fact. This however, is NOT the area for it.

Yarmouth has been through enough. We have a voice. Do NOT let your local government take it away. At the very least, give this a like and a share.
