No Rock Quarry next to Kamiak Elementary

The Issue

The proposed rock quarry site is only 1,000 feet from Kamiak Elementary, 3,000 feet from Pullman High School, 500 feet from multiple homes, and directly touching the future developments on military hill.  This location is unacceptable.  The proposed location is currently zoned residential and MUST REMAIN RESIDENTIAL.  A rock quarry is a danger to nearby homes, wells, and most importantly the children at Kamiak Elementary.

Fly rock (rock which escapes during quarry blasts) cannot be predictably controlled and can be and has been deadly.  The noise created, air pollution, and ground vibrations will all negatively effect local residents.  This type of activity should not exist in the middle of a Pullman neighborhood, and certainly not anywhere near our children's school.

There is already an existing rock quarry only 2 miles away that can be used without endangering our children and homes.

Please sign this petition before the July 26th rezone meeting, letting the Pullman city council and the planning commission know that you oppose the zone change that would allow a rock quarry so near our homes and our children's elementary school.
