In 2022, I stood in the crowd at Sziget, surrounded by strangers from all over the world, dancing under lights and stars. That night, borders disappeared. There was no “us” or “them” only music, freedom, and connection.

This year, something threatens that unity.

KNEECAP, scheduled to perform on August 11, is not just another edgy band. They are a political group that has openly promoted anti-Israel narratives, glorified violence, and displayed imagery supporting terrorism, including altered photos of themselves holding weapons and praising groups responsible for attacks on civilians.

Their performances are often infused with messages that cross the line from politics into incitement and hate. Bringing this energy to a space like Sziget especially one that welcomes thousands of Israeli and Jewish festival-goers is dangerous. It puts people at risk.

This is not about censorship. It’s about protecting the spirit of Sziget. Music festivals should be safe spaces. Places where no one feels targeted because of who they are or where they’re from.

Sziget gave me memories of peace. Let’s make sure it doesn’t become a place of fear.

בשנת 2022, עמדתי בקהל בזיגט, מוקף בזרים מכל רחבי העולם, רוקד תחת אורות וכוכבים. באותו לילה, הגבולות נעלמו. לא היה "אנחנו" או "הם", רק מוזיקה, חופש וחיבור.

השנה, משהו מאיים על האחדות הזו.

KNEECAP, שאמורה להופיע ב-11 באוגוסט, אינה סתם עוד להקה נועזת. הם קבוצה פוליטית שקידמה בגלוי נרטיבים אנטי-ישראליים, האדירה אלימות והציגה תמונות התומכות בטרור, כולל תמונות משופרות של עצמם אוחזים בנשק ומשבחים קבוצות האחראיות לפיגועים באזרחים.

ההופעות שלהם לעתים קרובות ספוגות במסרים שחוצים את הגבול מפוליטיקה להסתה ושנאה. הבאת האנרגיה הזו למרחב כמו זיגט, במיוחד כזה שמקבל בברכה אלפי באי פסטיבל ישראלים ויהודים, היא מסוכנת. זה מעמיד אנשים בסיכון.

זה לא קשור לצנזורה. זה קשור להגנה על רוח זיגט. פסטיבלי מוזיקה צריכים להיות מרחבים בטוחים. מקומות שבהם אף אחד לא מרגיש מטרה בגלל מי שהוא או מאיפה הוא בא.
