Regardless of their political stance, no American should be allowed the opportunity to serve as President if they have aged 70 years or older. This is due to the fact that many experience a natural cognitive decline over the years. A study by the National Library of Medicine found that, “A total of 67% of the geriatric population will experience some form of cognitive decline by age 70” (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK580536/ Another study, by Columbia University, discovered, “Almost 10% of US adults ages 65 and older have dementia, while another 22% have mild cognitive impairment” (Source: https://www.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/one-10-older-americans-has-dementia These statistics prove that a great percentage of elderly adults suffer from a loss of cohesion, and I (in addition to many Americans) believe if a person struggles with forming coherent thoughts, they should not be able to run a country! No matter if they are Democratic, Republican, or Independent; the facts do not lie. If there is a minimum age of eligibility, there should be a maximum.
