No Parking Permits for Exeter St Thomas
No Parking Permits for Exeter St Thomas
The Issue
In 2019, the residents of St Thomas were canvassed on whether they would support residents permit parking, to which there was a small majority.
Implementation of the policy was delayed due to the pandemic, but it is now being raised again with the council moving to implement it.
We (some of the residents) believe that the reasons for implementing parking permits do not stack up
TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR FREE PARKING IN ST THOMAS
If you are against residents parking permits, the most important thing you can do is complete the consultation form. The final consultation closes soon.
Here's why we're against it:
- Most residents experience parking difficulties outside of commuter hours - when the parking restrictions don't actually apply
- Other roads in St Thomas have residents parking in place (Buller Road, Beaufort Road) and there's now a groundswell of regret because of the restrictions, expense and inconvenience it causes them
- You will have to pay to park outside your own house. And you'll have to pay for and fill out visitors permits every 24 hours for anyone visiting you if they can't find a free bay or stay longer than 2 hours.
- The proposals amount to an additional tax burden. With the spiralling cost of living, many households are under financial stress already, making difficult choices about heating, electricity and other bills
- Residents parking damages small, independent businesses serving St Thomas
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- The most important action you can take is writing to Rob Hannaford our local councillor.
- You can sign this petition
- You can share this information and get your friends and family to oppose the changes.
YOUR VOICE REALLY MATTERS AND WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
