Recently a resident eavesdropped in on a Road to Rail activist meeting run by the Socialist Alliance at FERN (Fremantle Environmental Resource Network). Invited was Kim Dravnieks (Rethink The Link convener) who made the statement that she was employed by the McGowan Government and was scheming behind the scenes with Minister Rita Saffioti to have the Roe reserve deleted from the MRS and have it rezoned for social housing as part of Metronet. This especially in the controversial Bibra Lake arrea they fought to protect for Banksia Woodland and Cockatoo breeding grounds. No mention of the destruction of the same on the road to an outer harbour at Cockburn Sound. The Greens are noticeably silent on this issue. So much for the environment! It will be interesting how the people of Cockburn vote in the upcoming Federal by-election for the seat of Fremantle. With Labor’s Josh Wilson being on record against Roe 8 and the Greens Dorinda Cox aligned to the anti Roe policy what choice will voters have? Looks like a minor party candidate or independent may have a good chance to win by supporting this important infrastructure.
