The impending by-election for the Federal seat of Fremantle kicks off with Labor backed Deputy Mayor of Cockburn to pass motion at council for referendum on Roe 8. With the Liberals not running a candidate it will be war against Labor and the Greens to win the seat. All of a sudden Roe 8 and the Outer Habour are back on the agenda. The Secretary of the MUA Cristy Cain has already made it clear they do not back an outer Harbour so that means the politics will be thick with campaigning on who holds the highest moral ground. This will be a way for Labor to gauge public reaction in the larger voter base of Cockburn to see if a policy change in direction is called for and to justify using the $1.2 billion set aside from the Federal Govt as a contingency in the budget to build Roe 8 & 9.
