The West Australian Labor party are set to have their first full cabinet meeting to understand what lies are ahead for them in government.
Premier Mark McGowan said his team would be briefed by Treasury and the Department of Premier and Cabinet today, where they will be privy to the state's dire finances.
Budgets forecasts during the election campaign projected a $535 million state deficit and $41.1 billion of debt in 2019/20, but Mr McGowan said the figures wouldn't prevent key promises being kept.
Well this is very telling in what style of economic management WA Labor has in mind for the taxpayer over the next four years.
It is also telling of what WA has installed with a Union run Labor Govt. As a precursor Labor MP Fran Logan put the cards on the table recently with his outburst at a pre-election debate.
"If they then turn around and say now we want to be compensated for the loss of the long-term contract, I am sure that Mark (McGowan) will say see you in court," Mr Logan said.
"That's a long process. There's lots of other projects coming up and we will remember your name if you put your tender in. If that's the game you want to play. If you want to take us to the court, no worries.
"We'll see you in court for over the next four or five years and when you put your tenders in we will look very carefully at your tenders."
When complete, Roe 8 will redirect more than 6900 trucks and 74,000 light vehicles, which currently use Farrington Road, South Street, Leach Highway and other local roads on a daily basis, to a dedicated, free-flowing highway. The majority of West Australians know what is the sensible thing to do and that is 'Bring on the Link'!
