WINTER SOLSTICE HIKE @ PETERS CANYON, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21, 10:30AM: Celebrate the winter solstice on an easy to moderate hike in Peters Canyon Regional Park with No Orange Heights. Wander the North Loop and Cactus Point Trails for stunning views of the reservoir and mountains. Follow the Peters Canyon Trail to the lush and shady Willow Trail back to the parking lot. We'll stop frequently to observe, appreciate and identify the wildlife, including migratory birds, and plants that have inspired us in our campaign to preserve the 400-acre wildlife corridor that connects Peters Canyon to Irvine Park. Chances of encountering a roadrunner, cactus wren, gnatcatcher or snake. Fun for the whole family! See trail map.

DIFFICULTY: Easy for experienced hikers. Moderate for inexperienced hikers. 2-3 miles round-trip. Uneven terrain. Dirt trail varies from wide to curvy single track. Roughly 200 feet elevation gain with 2 steep hills. Full sun exposure. Not recommended for those with mobility or medical issues.

WHERE: Meet in parking lot of Peters Canyon North Trailhead, 8548 Canyon View Ave, Orange, CA 92869.

PARKING FEE: $3
