No One Should Suffer in Silence: Free Therapy for Youth Now

The issue

Many teens struggle with mental health issues but cannot access the help they desperately need due to financial barriers. The cost of therapy can be prohibitive for young people aged 12-24, a critical time in their lives when they are navigating significant developmental and life changes.

According to headspace research, up to 50 % of 12–25-year-olds delayed seeking help because of cost .Yet, despite the pressing need for mental health services, many young individuals remain underserved. Financial barriers make it difficult for these young people to receive the guidance and support that could be life-changing.

Investing in free mental health services for teenagers and young adults would not only improve individual well-being but also have far-reaching benefits for society. Proper mental health support could lead to reduced dropout rates, improved academic performance, and increased productivity in the workforce. According to a report by the World Health Organization, every $1 invested in scaled-up treatment for common mental disorders leads to a $4 return in better health and productivity.

The government and healthcare institutions must come together to prioritize mental health support for our youth by making therapy free and accessible. By removing financial obstacles, we can ensure that every young person, regardless of their financial background, has the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.

It's time to take action and support our young people. Please sign this petition to advocate for free therapy services for those aged 12-24. Together, we can make mental health care accessible to all who need it.
