No More Police Brutality

No More Police Brutality
The Issue
Petition to The Establishment
Police violence is a major issue in the United States that needs to be addressed by our community. People are criminalized, harassed, abused, and even killed for no reason by the police and other law enforcement agents simply because of who they are, how they look, the color of their skin, and where they live. Police violence is a public health issue that is especially harmful to black people and in communities of color.
The violence of poverty, pollution, lack of healthcare, unaffordable housing, and police brutality affects many communities across the country, and especially in black communities, putting many of my friends and family members in danger. We are taught that police officers' job is to protect the lives of civilians and to keep our communities safe. This is further from the truth. Only we can keep each other safe, NOT the police. They can not solve social problems with guns and arrests.
Over 100,000 people have died from the coronavirus. Millions have lost their jobs and health insurance, and even more, are worried they may lose their homes because they can't afford to pay their rent or make mortgage payments. Schools closed because of 'stay at home' orders leaving many students unable to complete the school year, participate in field trips, attend prom, take part in graduation and awards ceremonies, or be able to hang out with their friends before the summer break. Millions of people don't have enough money to buy food, and thousands of kids are going without enough food to eat. And now, again, black people are being killed by the police. People are protesting. People of all races are angry and hurting. Riots are staring. And the president of the United States is doing nothing to improve the lives of the people or holding police officers and others accountable for the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others who didn't have to die.
Protests are occurring across the country. Riots are erupting, and fires are starting. People's lives are in danger as the police are pepper-spraying protesters and using tear gas and rubber bullets to stop people from taking over the streets. The coronavirus is already killing people, and we do not need more people to die, we need to save as many lives as we can. To do this, every household should receive a basic income from the government, universal healthcare, guaranteed safe and affordable housing, free education, access to clean water, and jobs that pay. We have to stop corporations from polluting our communities and harming our health. We have to melt ICE, change immigration laws, and stop caging people. It's time for our people locked up in prisons to come home. We should disarm the police, and stop calling them to solve problems we can fix ourselves. We need to ban the use and ownership of guns and rifles.
Police brutality is a horrible thing that we can stop now.
