I'm Melissa Bumstead and I hope you'll take the time to read the article in People Magazine about the work I've been doing to clean up the former nuclear site near my home, the Santa Susana Field Lab.

The Santa Susana Field Lab is the site of one of America's worst nuclear meltdowns and one of California's most toxic sites, but very people knew it existed. I didn't have any idea that my family would be in danger when we moved to the area. My daughter was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer when she was four. I soon met fifty other local families whose children were also fighting cancer. Several kids died.

Fast forward six years and I'm one of many parents fighting for the complete cleanup of the Santa Susana Field Lab. We're up against Boeing, NASA, and the Department of Energy who care more about power and profit than they do about people. They want to walk away from the full cleanup, even though they know our children, families, and friends are getting sick from cancer, thyroid disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

We need to keep pushing until we get the safest, smartest, and most comprehensive cleanup possible. Our kids' lives literally depend on it. Will you help? You can start by just sharing this petition. Our budget is very limited, but small acts like spreading the word really helps. And it's free! I'd really appreciate it.

Warmly,
Melissa Bumstead
