We had a very-merry time educating our community about one of California’s most toxic sites, the Santa Susana Field Lab. In five hours we gave out nearly 5,000 candy canes at “Candy Cane Lane,” Woodland Hills, where hundreds of homes are decorated and where thousands of local families visit every year.
It was a fun and magical way to make face-to-face contact with so many people while letting them know about our fight for the SSFL cleanup, while spreading Holiday cheer! Every volunteer who came asked if they could come again next year… though next year we will (hopefully) give out candy canes to celebrate the cleanup in progress, instead of advocating for it like we did this year.
Each candy cane bag we handed out included this message, and its for you as well;
Dear Neighbor,
We continue to advocate for the smartest, safest, and most complete cleanup of the Santa Susana Field Lab so that you and your loved ones will be protected from the site’s contamination. May your holiday season be filled with health and happiness.
Warmly,
Parents Against the Santa Susana Field Lab
P.S. a super big thank you to those who donated and helped make this event possible, I hope you’ve found your donation to be well used. And thanks to the volunteers who stood in the cold for hours to help distribute candy canes. And especially a big thank you to Auralia who hosted our event at her home at Candy Cane lane.
