I learned something new today, it’s a term called “predatory delay.”
It’s a tactic used in bureaucracy to intentionally delay change so they can profit while we, the people who are suffering, are forced to wait. Boeing, NASA and the Department of Energy will continue to push CalEPA and the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to intentionally delay the cleanup of one of California’s most toxic areas, the Santa Susana Field Lab.
We will continue to lose our children’s lives to cancer.
There are dozens of other communities in California who are also suffering like ours because CalEPA and the DTSC are taking advantage of the fact that we depend on them to protect us. And like us, these groups have spent years trying to CalEPA and DTSC to remove the hazardous materials out of the soil, water, and air near their homes. We can’t wait anymore. Children are dying because of CalEPA and DTSC’s negligence. It’s time to act.
If you’re in California I hope you’ll join us for an environmental justice protest at the CalEPA building in Sacramento on August 30, 2021. To sign up visit: www.ej-ca.com
If you’re not able to come to the protest you can still support our movement. You can donate to help EJ groups who can’t afford the gas to get to the protest.
We have to be louder, and more powerful than Boeing, NASA and the Department of Energy (plus all the other polluters and corporate developers in California who encourage CalEPA and DTSC to use predatory delay tactics).
Ready team? Let’s make some real change and protect kids from toxic and radioactive contamination across California!
Warmly,
Melissa Bumstead,
Founder, Parents Against the Santa Susana Field Lab
