Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congressmembers Julia Brownley, Brad Sherman, Katie Hill, Tony Cardenas, Adam Schiff, Karen Bass, Mike Thompson, and Mark Desaulnier have joined together with a co-signed letter supporting the SSFL 100% cleanup asking for an explanation for the delays! Here’s an excerpt from the letter:
...Additionally, we are deeply concerned that the Department of Energy, and NASA have publicly indicated that the agencies do not intend to comply with the long-standing SSFL clean-up agreements that Department of Energy and NASA signed with the State of California. These agreements, which were supported by the state and local community, were entered into in good faith and it is completely unacceptable that the Department of Energy and NASA are refusing to comply with these clean-up agreements...we respectfully request an update on the cleanup status and actions DOE, NASA and the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) intend to take to comply…
It’s a powerful letter!
Department of Energy, NASA and the DTSC know the full ramifications of this letter being sent by a Senator and eight Congressmembers. The letter is a battering ram for the 100% cleanup...but we haven’t heard any response from NASA, Department of Energy or the DTSC.
Maybe they hope we don’t understand the influence this letter has. Maybe they’re not used to being held accountable. Maybe they think that we’ll forget about the cleanup, even though four children have been recently diagnosed with cancer in our area. We'll never forget, we understand the importance of our elected officials public support, and we are so thankful for the elected officials who were willing to stand up to these huge powers for the safety of our community.
The DTSC, NASA and the Department of Energy may not (seem to) care, but we do!! Let’s thank our representatives for putting their continued support into action. Would you take 1 minute to thank at least one elected official? You can leave a message, and it would still help!
