“For the mistakes I’ve made along the way, I take full accountability.”
“I owe a lot of apologies and have already taken steps back to give myself space to heal…”
“My door is always open and I will make time for any dialogue with anyone.”
Sounds nice on the surface, right? But here’s the reality:
He calls them “personal shortcomings” — when we’re talking about domestic violence charges, harassment, withheld paychecks, hostile work environments, and abuse of staff. That’s not “making people uncomfortable.”
He says “I take full accountability” — but offers no specifics, no restitution, no apologies to victims, no commitment to step away from ownership or control.
This is PR spin, not accountability. It’s designed to soften his image while leaving the door open for a comeback.
Make no mistake: vague apologies won’t fix what 1-Up Lounge and Cardhaven did to employees, contractors, and patrons. The only path forward is a full transfer of ownership and control to new, neutral hands. If Hugh or his family remain benefactors, nothing changes.
