Hello All,
The US Navy is back with their proposal to use 29 coastal Washington State Parks for wargaming. No we are not kidding. This Thursday, November 19th, 9 am PST.
We need you to be a clicktavist and join the meeting using this link: https://watech.webex.com/watech/onstage/g.php?MTID=e17bcfff908c9135871872aa5848bf655 (event password: WAP@rks2020)
Here is a description of the proposal:
Camouflaged troops carrying realistic looking rubber rifles - that imitate standard military weapons - will sneak out of the water and across beaches to hide in upland vegetation for 2 to 72 hours while stalking park visitors, accompanied by additional support. “The whole point of this is to do it without being seen,” Navy Public Affairs informs. Meaning, the only reason the Navy wants to use these 29 coastal parks is because they are used by members of the pubic, like you. If you were not there, the Navy would not be interested in being there because there would be no one to stalk.
This violates laws for state parks prohibiting displaying guns and other weapons, and intimidating and disturbing park employees, volunteers, and visitors. And, the Navy will be allowed to use our parks in ways Washington taxpayers and paying visitors cannot.
One of the key responsibilities for civil authorities is to tell the military when enough is enough. It the citizens don’t put limits on military activities, expansion will never cease. It is up to us, the citizenry, to take that stand and draw the appropriate line. It is not unpatriotic or disrespectful to set limits on the military – it is our responsibility. Just say NO to using public parks for military training.
