The Framfield Memorial Recreation Ground was "Given by Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Easton of Thurston Hall for the benefit of all parishioners as a memorial to the fallen and a thank-offering to those who returned from service." Therefore I would argue that it isn't just the trees that are a memorial, but the ground is a memorial in its own right. Siting the mast over the top of trees planted in memoriam in what is the most attractive part of the village, and an area used by sports clubs, the Primary School and the Annual Horticultural Fair, is wholly out of keeping and desecrates what is the heart and lungs of the village.
